Memorial Day Program To Be Sunday, Manning
Parade, Services at Opera House Will Feature Day

Memorial Day program will take place in the Manning Opera House Sunday, May 30. Those taking part in the parade will assemble at the north end of Main Street and march to the Opera House.

Line of parch will consist of the colors and guard, American Legion Drum and Bugle Corps, firing squad, Spanish War Veterans, Indian War Veterans, American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, Women's Relief Corps, flower girls, and boy scouts.

The following program will be given at the Opera House:
Opening Address - Legion Post Commander, Dr. Raymond B. Kelsey.
Song, "America" - community singing.
Invocation - Rev. Father J.J. Keane.
Roll Call of Honor - Civil War, Representative W.R.C.; World War, Post Adjutant, Frank J. Mentzer.
"Soldier, Rest in Peace" Male Quartet: Jerry Aga, Robert Starek, Amos Lee, Clifford Johnson.
Lincoln's Gettysburg Address - Warren Petersen.
"In Flanders’ Field – Shirley Stahl.
Address - Rev. G.E. Steele. "Star Spangled Banner" community singing.
Benediction.

March to Cemetery - Prayer.
Decorate Unknown Soldier's grave.
Salute - Firing Squad.

Arnold Witt Dies; Former Sheriff Aide
Arnold Reimer Witt, 64, former Carroll County deputy sheriff, died about 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 1962, at St. Anthony Hospital. He had been ill for more than a year.

Rites Saturday
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 20, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, of which he was a member. The Rev. Harold W. Kieck will officiate; and burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. There will be a military service by Maurice Dunn Post No. 7, American Legion, in charge of Harold J. Kienapfel.

Friends may call at the Huffman Funeral Home in Carroll after 7 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Witt, a veteran of World War I, served as deputy sheriff from January 1939, until May 1948. Since then he had been a city assessor, and was with the Iowa State Tax Commission as an auditor until becoming ill.

Survivors
Surviving are his wife Florence; a daughter, Mrs. Ed (Phyllis) Vanderloo, Des Moines; a son, Wayne Witt, Carroll; six grandchildren, Linda, Kathy, and Janet Vanderloo, Des Moines; and Tommy, Kenneth, and Sheila Witt, Carroll; two sisters, Regilda Witt and Edna Witt, both of Manning.

Mr. Witt was born May 16, 1897, at Arcadia, a son of William and Margaret (Martens) Witt. He was confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church at Manning on March 16, 1913. His marriage to Florence Ehlers, Manning, took place June 1, 1921. He was a member of the local American Legion Post. They lived at 310 East Seventh Street, Carroll, Iowa.
