Emil J. Hammer was born on May 10, 1899, in Crawford County, Iowa, to Henry and Louise (Kruse) Hammer. He moved with his parents to Moody County when he was eleven years old and completed his education at rural Bell School. In 1917, the family moved to a farm in the Ward area. Emil later farmed with his brothers, Charlie and Louie in Minnesota and Moody County until his marriage to Lena Reichmann on February 18, 1926, at Villard, Minnesota. They started farming in the Flandreau area and in 1943 moved to a farm northwest of Flandreau. He retired in 1963 and moved to Flandreau where he has since made his home. He served on the Sarby School Board, Our Savior's Board of Trustees, and the building committee when the Educational Unit was built.
SURVIVORS
He is survived by one son Stanley, Flandreau; one brother, Louie, Flandreau;
five grandchildren and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his
wife; one infant daughter, parents, three brothers and two sisters.
