Last Rites Held For Johannes Hell

Funeral services for Johannes Hell, Denison farmer, were held at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gordon Zimmerman of the Audubon Presbyterian Church officiating. Music was by the Manning Presbyterian quartet.

Pallbearers were Lorn Hagedorn, Hugo Wilhelm, Harold Stammer, Wilbur Anthony, Ivan Frahm, and Gus Jensen. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Hell died of a heart attack at his home Wednesday noon, April 1, 1953. His wife found his body in the yard, after he had gone to the mailbox.

He was born on December 22, 1885, in Scott County, Iowa, the son of John and Maria (Bothfuhr) Hell.

At the age of 7, he came to Carroll County with his parents. On December 22, 1910, he was married to Sarah Wiese at Manning. The couple had farmed, since their marriage, the last 10 years near Denison.

Mr. Hell is survived by his wife; two daughters: Mrs. Harry Selk (Ella), Sutherland; and Mrs. Carl Meyer (Edna), Vail; four grandchildren: Tommy Selk; Donald, Jeanette, and Sarah Meyer; and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. John Musfeldt (Minnie), Mrs. Ed Hinze, (Anna), Mrs. Amanda Piper, Mrs. Josephine Hargens, all of Manning; Mrs. Robert Waddell (Emma), Andrew, Iowa; Frank, Manning; and Charles of Flandreau, South Dakota.

His parents, three brothers: Henry, Ferdinand, and William, and a sister, Mrs. Oliver Freetly, preceded him in death.
