1873 - 1939

Manning
Adam Wiese, 65, who had spent virtually all of his life in or near Manning, died about midnight Sunday after a brief illness.

Mr. Wiese, who had spent the winters with his daughters at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, since the death of his wife in 1937, returned to Manning about a month ago to attend to business matters, having taken a room at the Kruse Hotel during his stay. His death occurred at his room in the hotel, where he had been cared for during his three-day illness, with a nurse in attendance. His son, Mevis Wiese, living on a farm near Manning, had been in to spend the evening with him, having gone home about 10 o'clock. Mr. Wiese later suffered a hemorrhage, passing away shortly thereafter.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Alexander Wimberly, minister of the Presbyterian Church, in charge.
Burial was in the family lot in the Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers were six nephews: Gerhart, Verdis, Hubert, Frank, Marvin and Herman Lamp.

Mr. Wiese, who was born Aug. 15, 1873, was the first child born in the town of West Side after it was settled. He made farming his life work, continuing to operate his farm after he had retired and moved to Manning.

He was married September 3, 1902, to Miss Frieda Schacht of Aspinwall, who died in Manning in 1937.

Survivors include two sons, Mevis Wiese of Manning and Robert Wiese of Marengo; two daughters, Mrs. A.S. Jacobson, Helen, and Mrs. George Matherly, (Mildred), Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three grandchildren Marjorie and Judith Jacobson and Donald Wiese, and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Henry Mueller, (Anna), Manning; Mrs. Agnes Lamp, Manning; Dr. Charles Wiese, Lake City; Ed Wiese, Manning, and Albert D. Wiese, Manning.

Two brothers, Rudolph and Frank, passed away in California and a sister, Mrs. Ed Farrell, (Theresa), died in Manning several years ago.

Mr. Wiese was a Member of the Woodman Lodge.

I'm occasionally adding the actual scanned image of the obituary I make using my VERY expensive - large commercial scanner, and/or also other articles about the deceased person that were published in the Manning Monitor.
I want to also comment about people who are taking my obituaries, pictures, and/or other articles about a person/family and posting them on other websites.
You do NOT have permission or the right to do this - you are stealing my historical work.
Buy your own scanning equipment, pay for memberships to other commercial websites, and spend decades working on your local history like I have - then you'll understand why I'm making these comments!

Thank you for your attention to this matter - Dave Kusel
