Funeral rites for Albert Detlef Wiese, 72, of Manning were held at the Ohde Funeral Home here Monday afternoon, August 5, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Lester Moore of the Manning Methodist Church officiating.

Dr. John Hornberger was soloist, Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Mr. Wiese, youngest son of Detlef and Margaretha (Schneckloth) Wiese, was born June 14, 1885, near Westside.

He became ill at his lakeside home July 2 and died at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge August 2, 1957.

After attending Manning schools, Mr. Wiese read law with the Harle-Tinley law firm in Council Bluffs and studied law at Drake University.

On August 16, 1913, he was married to Blanche Gorsuch of Montezuma. They established their home in Manning, where they have resided since.

Mr. Wiese began his business career as cashier in the Bank of Manning. Following that, he operated a real estate and loan business. He and his brother, Adam, became partners in the purebred Hereford cattle business, and during this time he served as secretary of the Iowa Hereford Cattle Breeders' Association.

For 26 years, Mr. Wiese actively served the Manning community, six years as president of the board of education, four years as mayor, and 17 years as superintendent of the Manning Municipal Light Company. He was a 50-year Mason.

The last of his family, he was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Frank, Rudolph, Adam, Edward, and Charles; three sisters: Mrs. Joe (Agnes) Lamp, Mrs. Henry (Anna) Mueller, and Mrs. Ed (Theresia) Farrell.
He is survived by his wife, nieces and nephews.
