Alex, son of Ed and JoAnn (Peters) Ohl was born
November 17, 1977, at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City, New York. He
started school at Alpine Elementary School in Sparta, New Jersey. After
attending several other schools he graduated from West Morris Central High School,
Morris Plains, New Jersey, in 1999. While in high school he earned a varsity
letter in soccer as team manager. He was also a member of Sussex County Road Runners,
a Special Olympics Team.
After graduation, he moved with his parents to his mother's hometown Manning, Iowa. Alex lived with his parents for five years before moving to a New Hope Village Group Home in Manning. Alex enjoyed walking Main Street in Manning visiting business owners. He was famous for his hugs. In October of 2011 Alex moved to Carroll where he lived independently with three roommates, supervised by Family Resource Center of Carroll.
Alex loved bowling and adored his two nephews. He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye; Manning Bulldogs; IKM Manning Wolves; New York Jets, and lately a Carroll Tiger fan. He usually had his television tuned to a sports channel or SyFy network while playing Angry Birds on his iPad.
Alex died peacefully of heart failure at his home in Carroll on Monday, March 18, 2013, at the age of 35 years, 4 months and 1 day. Preceding him in death are his grandparents and Uncle, Terry Ohl.
He is survived by his parents Ed and JoAnn Ohl of Carroll and Manning; sister Erika (J.J.) Brandstatter of Bromfield, Colorado, and their children, loving nephews, Jack and Chase; Aunt, Janice (Larry) Boehme of Wakefield, Kansas; uncle Brian (Janet) Peters of Grimes and cousins, other relatives and friends.
