Alexander Mayberry
At 7 o'clock on the evening of September 29th, 1921, at his late home in Manning, Iowa, Mr. Alexander Mayberry departed this life to enter upon his eternal rest.

Mr. Mayberry was born in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, on July 5th, 1840, and was therefore at day of death 81 years, 2 months, and 24 days old. He spent the early part of his life in Pennsylvania and in the year of 1853 he moved to Maquoketa, Iowa, where he spent 30 years of his life. From the latter place he moved to Manning, Iowa, where he resided until death.

In the year 1866, he was married to Miss Amanda Brady of Maquoketa, Iowa, and to this union there were born five children, two of whom have passed on to the great beyond.

The three living children are as follows: Mrs. Lucy Barsby of Manning, Iowa, Messrs Scott and Charley Mayberry, both of Manning also.

Mr. Mayberry had four brothers and one sister. His sister Hattie and his brother Anderson Mayberry preceded him to the life beyond.

The three surviving brothers are as follows: Robert Mayberry of Mitchell, South Dakota, Calvin Mayberry of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Valentine Mayberry of Atlantic, Iowa. The surviving ones of the family are his wife and the relatives above mentioned with many other relatives too numerous to mention.

Mr. Mayberry was a man of unblemished character, intensely honest, conscientious and pure-minded, and withal, so good at heart and in life that he was greatly loved by all those who knew him. We doubt if he had an enemy on earth - so kind and good to all. For some time past he has been the janitor of the Presbyterian Church and by said church he was very much appreciated as a true man. He was a faithful listener to the preaching, much of it he heard though afflicted with partial deafness. His heart was with the church and with all the good people. We will greatly miss this dear good man.

The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, October 2, 1921, at his late home, and the interment took place in the Manning Cemetery, all the services being conducted by his pastor, Rev. Dr. Tait of the Presbyterian Church.
