Funeral services for Amanda H. Steen were held Tuesday, March 17, 1981, 1:30
p.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, with the Rev. Carl Sinning officiating.
Dorothy Kusel was the organist and Judy Joens was vocalist. Interment was in
Manning Cemetery with, Dean Vollstedt, Jack Lorenzen, Alan Lorenzen, Leman Ehlers,
Ray Ehlers, and Emil Ress as casketbearers.
Amanda Henrietta, a daughter of Lorenz and Catherine (Clausen) Lorenzen, was born January 6, 1903, near Irwin, Iowa. She attended rural schools near her home. At the age of 3, her mother passed away. As Amanda grew up, she kept house for her father and brothers.
On February 9, 1927, she was united in marriage with Ed Steen at Denison, Iowa. They farmed until 1951 when they moved into Manning. Amanda was a member of Busy Thimbles and a friend of the Presbyterian Church.
She had been in failing health for several years and entered Manning General Hospital in December of 1980 where she died on Saturday, March 14, 1981, at the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 8 days.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, two sisters, Anna Ehrichs and Caroline Thomsen; and four brothers, Thomas, William, John, and Edward.
She is survived by: her husband, Ed of Manning; one daughter, Madonna, Mrs. Bill Roberts of Newton; three granddaughters, Lynn, Mrs. Craig Carter of Des Moines, Karen Roberts of Cedar Falls and Janet Roberts of Mason City; one great grandson, Matthew Carter; and three sisters, Mrs. Hannah Boyens of Manilla, Mrs. Christine Tesch and Mrs. Emma Ranniger of Manning; as well as by nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
