Funeral services for Amelia Wellendorf will be held Thursday, September 5, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Daniel Vogel will be officiating with Carlys Stribe as organist. Interment will be held September 5, 2002 in the Morgan Township Cemetery in Schleswig, Iowa at 1:30 p.m. Casketbearers are Glen Wellendorf, Robert Wellendorf, Jerry Thraen, Charles Miller, Leonard Walde and Dick Hugg.
Amelia Margaret, daughter of August and Bridget (McNertney) DeConnick, was born March 13, 1918 in Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Rose of Lima Church in Denison on March 24,1918. She attended rural schools near her home and then Catholic school in Vail.
On May 1, 1937, Amelia was united in marriage with Fred E. Wellendorf in the Catholic Rectory in Ida Grove. Two children were born to this union. They lived and worked on the Wellendorf farm with his parents until the death of Fred's father when they farmed other places in the Ida Grove and Vail area. During this time, Amelia worked in the Ida Grove school system. While living near Vail, Amelia was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla on May 23, 1963. In 1965 they had a farm sale and moved into Westside, where Amelia worked as a bookkeeper at Rose Feed.
Amelia's husband Fred died on February 24, 1989, and she moved to Manning later that year to be near her daughter. Amelia lived at the Elm Crest Apartments until 1999 when her health began to fail and she became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She died there on Sunday, September 1, 2002, at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 19 days.
Amelia was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Throughout her life, Amelia enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. She and her husband liked to dance during their years together. In later years she found pleasure in visiting with her neighbors at Elm Crest Apartments.
Preceding Amelia in death are her parents; husband, sisters Anna Marie Ecklund, Elizabeth Miller, and Frances Jacobsen; and brother Joseph DeConnick.
She is survived by her son Richard Wellendorf and wife Kaye of Delmar, Delaware; daughter Rita and husband Gerald Beck of Manning; five grandchildren and their families: Kim and husband Ivan Krantz and children Katie and Dylan of Wyoming; Mark Wellendorf and his children Michael, Christopher, Courtney and Cassie of California: Dan Beck of Springfield, Missouri; Dave Beck and wife Shari and their sons Josh, Jacob and Joseph of Blair, Nebraska; and Donald Beck and wife Trisha and their daughters Brenna and Tiffani of Manning; sister-in-law Iona and husband Laverne Thraer of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
