Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, July 16 for Mrs. August Meyer, widely known, long time resident of this community who passed away following a long illness.
Anna Catherine Ketelsen was born in Husum, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany on February 22, 1859 and died July 14, 1938 at the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 22 days.
At the age of eight years she came to America with her parents settling near Charlotte, Iowa in Clinton County, in 1886 they moved to Lincoln Township. As a young girl she attended Iowa State Teachers' College.
On March 16, 1888 she was married to Mr. August Meyer, then of Templeton. In 1916 they moved to Manning. Three children were born to this union: Ernest Meyer, Omaha, Neb.; Marie Starck, Aurora, Ill.; and Mrs. Louise Berlin, Hobart, Indiana. Also surviving Mrs. Meyer are two step-daughters, Mrs. Emma Bald, Lincoln Township, and Mrs. Elizabeth Ross of Manning, and three sisters: Mrs. Sophia Polzin of Napa, Calif.; Mrs. Herman Ullerich and Mrs. Carl Borkowski both of near Manning, 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Meyer preceded her in death two years ago in December 1936.
Funeral services were held in the Lutheran Church with the Rev. J.M. Ansorge officiating. She was a member of the Lutheran Church all her life in which faith she had been baptized and confirmed as a young girl. She had been in ill health for the past three years. Internment was made in the Manning Cemetery.
Six of her grandsons acted as pallbearers - Raymond Ross, Walter Bald, Herman Bald, George Bald, Walter Barten, and Eugene Starck.
Relatives from Lost Nation, Ia.; Chicago Heights, Ill.; Crete, Ill.; Dow City, Paulina, Deloit, Dedham, Templeton, and Carroll attended.
