A native of Germany, born August 20, 1876, Plahn came to the United States in 1893. He farmed from 1901 to 1943 near Manning and then moved into town.
Surviving is his widow, the former Maria Ehlers; three
daughters, Mrs. Gilbert Sievertsen of Manilla, Mrs. Schumann of Westside, and Mrs.
Marvin Schultz of Manning; two brothers, Henry Plahn of Carroll and William of
Pierce, Nebraska; three sisters, Madeline Plahn of Chicago, Mrs. Carl Kaufman
of Jackson Heights, New York; and Anna Plahn in Germany.

Saturday Rites for August Plahn
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Manning Lutheran Church for
August Plahn, retired farmer, who died of a heart attack at 6:30 Wednesday evening in the Manning General Hospital.
Pastor John M. Ansorge will officiate at the rites. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.
Mr. Plahn, born August 20, 1876, at Elmshorn, Schleswig, Germany, had lived in Manning since coming to the United States in 1893.
He was married June 12, 1901, to Maria Ehlers, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Marvin (Olga) Schultz, Manning; Mrs. Gilbert (Mamie) Sievertsen, Manilla; and Mrs. LeRoy (Edna) Schumann. Westside; two brothers, Henry C. Plahn, Carroll, and Will Plahn, Pierce, Nebraska; three sisters, Magdalene, Chicago; Mrs. Carl Kaufmann, Jackson Heights, New York, and Anna, in Germany, and one grandson.
His parents, four sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
Mr. Plahn had farmed until his retirement nine years ago. Death followed a five-week illness.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church.
