B.F. Maple Passes Away March 21st

Mr. B.F. Maple passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Sides, on March 21st, 1930, aged 86 years 2 months, and 19 days.

Benjamin F. Maple was born January 2, 1844, in Brooks County, Virginia, where he grew to manhood. He was the son of William and Margaret Maple.

At the age of 13 years he united with the Christian Church. He later came west and on August 27th, 1868 in Marshall County, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Rebecca Weaver.

To this union were born nine children, three of whom preceded the father in death.

Mr. and Mrs. Maple established their first home in Manning, Iowa, where they resided five years.

They then journeyed westward to northwest, Nebraska, where he resided up to the time of his death.

Mr. Maple had made his home for the past three years with his daughter, Mrs. Sides, near Whitney. For his advanced years he was very active and was only confined to his bed the last two months before his death.

He endured the hardships of the early pioneers and besides rearing his own family, he reared and cared for his grandson, Harold Beebe, of this city, whose mother passed away when he was only a small child.

Mr. Maple was upright in all his dealings and highly respected.

He leaves to mourn his departure three daughters, Mrs. Wonderling, of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. A. Halleen, of Wausa, Nebraska; and Mrs. L.W. Sides, of Whitney, Nebraska; three sons, C.R. Maple, of Martin, South Dakota; W.J. Maple, Mitchell, Nebraska; and G.C. Maple, of National City, California; 25 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sides accompanied the body to Wausa, Nebraska, where funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, and he was laid to rest besides the grave of his wife, who preceded him in death.
