The Rev. E.C. Otte of Mapleton officiated at the services which were held in St. John's Evangelical Reformed Church here. Mrs. John Korn, Mrs. LeRoy Wiebers, Mrs. Ray Marten, Ella Rohwer, Mrs. William O. Stoelk, and Mrs. Harold Kracht sang "Under His Wing" and "In the Garden."
Burial was in Hayes Township Cemetery, with six grandsons serving as pallbearers: Elmer Petersen, Marvin Meyers, Eldon Schroeder, Gerald Schroeder, Berdell Schroeder, and Burdette Schroeder.
Mrs. Schroeder was born Caroline Tank September 29, 1866, in Rendsburg, Holstein, Germany. When she was two years old she came to America with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Christian and Frauke (Luetje) Tank, who settled in Davenport. After living there one year, they moved to Benton County where they resided until 1875.
They then located on a farm in Washington Township, Carroll County, six miles north of Manning.
For 40 years, Mrs. Schroeder had lived in the vicinities of Manning and Westside.
She married August Schroeder June 3, 1835. After his death, March 20, 1935, she lived with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Petersen.
She was the mother of 10 children, all of whom are living: Mrs. Petersen (Clara), Westside; Willie, Manning; Harry, Westside; Albert, Manning; George, Arcadia; Otto, Westside; Mrs. Charlie Meyers (Alma), Westside; Mrs. Albert Karsten (Hilda), Manning; Herbert, Manning; and Mrs. Erwin Wegner (Lolita), Manning. She leaves 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Schroeder was the last of her family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, George and Chris, and one sister, Mrs. John Hoffmann.
She was a constituent of the Lutheran Church.
