Stammer Rites Held Saturday At Manning
83-Year-Old Woman Who Drowned a Well Known Resident

Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Stammer of Manning, who died Wednesday, were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. George E. Steele officiating. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery and six grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers.

Mrs. Stammer passed away at the home of her son, Frank, near Spirit Lake, on Wednesday, September 15, 1937, at the age of 82 years, 11 months, and 10 days.

Mrs. Stammer, nee Schroeder, was born October 5, 1854, at Thielen, in the province of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In her native land she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church.

She came to America in 1872 and lived for some years in Clinton, Iowa. It was here that she was united in marriage to Claus Stammer in 1875. To them eight children were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Stammer moved to Crawford County in 1879, where they continued to live until they moved to Manning in 1906.

Mr. Stammer preceded his wife in death on July 21, 1931.

Mrs. Stammer leaves to mourn her sudden passing, one daughter, Mrs. Henry Anthony of Manning; five sons: Fred, Albert, and Louis of Manning; Edward of Eagan, South Dakota; and Frank, of Spirit Lake; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews.

A son, John, and a daughter, Alvina, preceded their mother in death.

Manning Woman Drowns After Fall from Pier
Mrs. Catherine Stammer, 83, Victim at Spirit Lake Wednesday
Word has been received in Manning of the death of Mrs. Catherine Stammer, 83, by drowning in Spirit Lake Wednesday. According to reports, Mrs. Stammer fell from a pier where she customarily fished by herself.

The body was brought to the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning Thursday morning and the funeral tentatively set for Saturday.

Mrs. Stammer, widow of Klaus Stammer, who died six years ago, is survived by six children who are as follow: Frank of Spirit Lake, with whom she was visiting at the time of her death; Fred, Albert, and Louis of Manning; Ed, who lives in South Dakota; Emma, Mrs. Henry Anthony, of Manning. A daughter-in-law, Mrs. John Stammer, also lives in Manning. John Stammer died several years ago and a daughter, Elvina, died in infancy.

MRS. CATHERINA STAMMER DROWNS IN LAKE OKOBOJI
Mrs. Catherina Stammer, 83, a resident of Manning for many years, making her home with her son Frank for the past several years on the road between Spirit Lake and Orleans, off the west shore of East Okoboji, drowned in East Okoboji yesterday morning.

Mrs. Stammer had gone fishing at about 10 o'clock. Her son left home at 10:30 with a letter for her which had just arrived. When he reached the lake he found the body of his mother floating in shallow water near shore.

It is believed Mrs. Stammer fell into the water. Coroner B.W. Jones pronounced the death accidental drowning.

Mrs. Stammer is the mother of Mrs. Henry Anthony; Fred, Albert, and Louie Stammer of Manning; Ed of Dakota, and Frank of Spirit Lake. Mrs. John Stammer is a daughter-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 P.M. The place is not yet decided.

Pioneer Resident Is Laid To Rest
