Charles Hanford Ramsey, 71, Manning, a retired rural mail carrier out of Botna for 44 years, died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, 1963, at St. Anthony Hospital, Carroll. He became ill and was taken to the hospital on Monday.
The Rev. Lester L. Moore, will officiate at the funeral, which will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ohde Funeral Home. Burial will be in Manning Cemetery, with cousins as pallbearers.
Mr. Ramsey was born at Garwin on February 18, 1892, a son of Harry and Ellen (Socwell) Ramsey. He moved with his parents to Gray when he was a young boy, and also lived at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for a few years. He came to the Botna area when he was 18 years old.
On June 10, 1913, he was married to Elizabeth Campbell, and they had six children. She died on August 4, 1928. He was married October 19, 1929, to Gladys Wycoff and they had one son.
He retired as a mail carrier in 1957, and they moved to Manning the next year. For many years, Mr. Ramsey had been a trapper and fur buyer, devoting full time to that occupation in the past few years.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; six children: Mrs. Leroy (Neva) Hahn, Muscatine; Howard Ramsey, San Pedro, California; Mrs. Amos (Doris) Rutz, Manning; Donald Ramsey, Montebello, California; Robert Ramsey, Whittier, California; and Merlin, Ramsey, Brea, California; also 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding Mr. Ramsey in death besides his first wife were one son, William, in 1962; one sister, Mrs. Trella Ewald, and one brother, Wilfred Ramsey.
