Clara Belle Garmire, daughter of Samuel F. and Marie Friedricka (Schreiber) Garmire, was born in Benton, Holmes County, Ohio, August 15, 1873, and departed this life after a long illness, at the Wyatt Memorial Hospital, July 18th, 1942.

At the age of six years she came with her parents to Walnut, Iowa, where the family resided two years moving to Audubon County where the family has since resided.

In early girlhood she united with the U.B. Church and took an active part in church work, as long as her health permitted. At an early age she taught in the public schools of Audubon County, until her marriage, July 13, 1892, to Samuel E. Newell. To this union one son, Winfred G., was born.

Mrs. Newell became a member of the Auxiliary to Emil Ewoldt Post the first year it was organized and was a willing worker in the organization until ill health prevented further service.

Her husband preceded her in death in February 1909.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her son, Winfred G. Newell; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Newell of Gray, Iowa, and Cora (Mrs. L.G.) Dixon of Ames, Iowa; one brother, Charles F. Garmire of Gray, Iowa, and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
