Darlene May, daughter of Morgan and Velma (Cotton) Decker, was born November 2, 1930, on the Decker home place northeast of Cambridge, Nebraska. At age four, Darlene started rural school and then continued in town, graduating from Cambridge High School in 1947.
She owned and operated a dress shop in Holbrook for a couple of years and then moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she worked as an operator for Lincoln Telephone Company. During that time she also worked at a shoe store.
In January of 1955, Darlene moved back to Holbrook and on October 14, 1955, was united in marriage with Lyman Warner. Five children were born to this union. They made their home in Holbrook and in 1960 purchased a home there. Five years later her husband took a District Manager position in Culbertson, Nebraska, where they resided for a couple of years. He then received another promotion in 1967 and the family moved to Manning.
While in Manning, Darlene worked at Coast to Coast and later at Spies Fur. After working at a grocery store, she opened the 141 Café on the east edge of Manning. Then in 1990 she started work at Burcliff Industries, also in Manning. She enjoyed embroidery and making quilts for her grandchildren. She also loved to cook for her family.
Darlene became a resident at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home in Manning when her health began to decline in August of 2015. She died there on Thursday October 1, 2015, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 29 days.
She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson Shaun Warner; brothers John (Betty) Decker and Dr. J.L. (Kathy) Decker and a sister-in-law Rosalie Decker.
Darlene is survived by her children Paula (Allen) Muhlbauer of Manning; Rick (Vicki) Warner of Aspinwall; Kevin (Barb) Warner of Carroll; Mike (Joni) Warner of Manning and Sheryl (John) Koester of Manning; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother Chancy Decker of Holdrege, Nebraska; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
