Old Timer Passes Away
David Thompson Mitchell has answered the call to higher service. He was born August 4th, 1852, at St. Paul, Minnesota, and there he lived until about sixteen years of age. At this time he moved with his parents, John and Nancy (McCoy) Mitchell, to Des Moines, and some five years later the family settled in Poweshiek County as farmers.

In 1877, the deceased was married to Miss Martha Graham, and this couple moved to a farm about 7 miles northwest of Audubon two years later, and afterward farmed south of Manning. Here they lived and toiled until 1910, when a move was made to Viola Township; there they remained until 1920 when they retired from farm life and came to Manning.

To this union were born five children all of whom survive the father.

The deceased had never been really healthy since leaving the farm and he passed away in the early hours of Thursday, July 5th, 1923, when within one month of his 71st birthday.

He leaves to mourn his departure his devoted wife and five children: Daisy (Mrs. William) Andre of Manilla, Iowa; Irvin Mitchell, Burlington, Colorado; Effie (Mrs. William) Whitcher, Manning; Floyd Mitchell, Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Doris (Mrs. Ernest) Young, Ross, Iowa; also five grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church, in Manning, Sunday afternoon, July 8th, the Rev. Harry Coates officiating, after which the remains were conveyed to Lincoln Township Cemetery, Audubon County, for interment.
