Della Rohr was born January 7, 1904, in Manning, Iowa, and died July 4, 1929, at the age of 25 years 5 months and 27 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a faithful member of her church. After she was graduated in 1922, Miss Rohr completed her education at the Iowa State Teachers' college at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Since then she had taught at various schools, lastly at the Odebolt, Iowa, public school during the 1928-29 term. After her return home she had accepted position at the Hansen-Pahde company for the summer, intending to teach at Odebolt again in the fall.
Miss Rohr was killed almost instantly when the automobile in which she was riding with Miss Therese Sievers overturned about five and one-half miles north of Manning, near the Dietrich Fonken place.
The deceased leaves to mourn her departure her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rohr, Sr.; two brothers, Karl Rohr of Templeton, Iowa, and Henry Rohr, Jr., of Manning; eight sisters: Frieda, Mrs. Helmuth Wentzel; Jessie, Mrs. Alfred Kuhl; Wilhelmine, Mrs. Ernest Kuhn; Alma, Mrs. Herman C. Pahde, all residing in and near Manning; Helen, Mrs. Victor Schultz of Lytton, Iowa; Martha Rohr of Chicago, Illinois; Elsie and Lucia Rohr, at home; Mr. Robert Williams, her fiancee of Odebolt, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 7, at 2:00 p. in. at the Lutheran Church, with Reverend Johann M. Ansorge, the pastor in charge. The assemblage of relatives, friends and neighbors surpassed by far the capacity of the church edifice, which bore the testimony of the love and esteem in which the deceased was held by all. The remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Manning Cemetery.
The pall bearers were: Lloyd Rix, Dewey Voss, L.E. Schelldorf, H.E. Meyers, Harry C. Martens, and Peter F. Hansen.
A noble young woman has departed this life, and the bereaved family receives the deepest sympathy of the entire community.
