Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon, Friday, April 30, 1937, for Edwin Martens, popular Manning business man, youngest son of Henry and Bertha Martens of Manning, Iowa, Last rites will be at two o'clock at Zion Lutheran church with Rev. John M. Ansorge officiating.

Edwin, known to his countless friends as "Skinny," passed away Tuesday evening about 7:30 at the Wyatt Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for some time. His condition for several days had been critical.

The deceased was twenty-seven years of age on January 19th.

Although a young man, he had been in business a number of years. He was owner of Skinny's News Stand, Soft Drink Parlor, Confectionery and Shine Parlor. He perhaps had an acquaintance larger than anyone in town.

Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Edwin Martens Rites Held Friday
Funeral services for Edwin P. Martens, popular young Manning business man, were held Friday afternoon at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor John M. Ansorge officiating.

Edwin or "Skinny" at he was known by his countless friends, passed away Tuesday evening, April 27, 1937, at the Wyatt Memorial Hospital in Manning where he had been in a critical condition for several days. About a year previous to his death he had been operated on for sinus trouble in Omaha but had never fully regained his health. Several weeks ago, his condition became worse and he was immediately removed to the Wyatt Hospital. All that medical skill and loving hands could do was extended but all in vain.

The deceased was born in Manning on January 19th, 1910, and at the time of his death was 27 years of age. He graduated from Manning High with the class of 1929. During his school career he was active in all phases of participation as well as being an excellent student. Always a lover of sports, he was a member of Manning's championship football and basketball squads. He also followed I baseball closely and enjoyed playing golf. He was also a member of the school band.

Although a young man, he had been in business for thirteen years, since he was 14 years of age. While still in high school he started in the confectionery business and expanded and enlarged his establishment through the years.

Mr. Martens, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry G. Martens, leaves besides his parents, a brother, Orville of San Francisco, California, his grandmother, Mrs. Johanna Ruhde and many other relatives and friends.

Skinny was always cheerful and happy and had a warm heart for everybody and was everybody's friend. He was liked and beloved wherever he went and now that he has gone, will be greatly missed and it is regretted that his life was but like a night's sweet dream.

Edwin was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 19, 1926. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were: George Brady, Charles Rogers, Jr., William Petersen, Willard Bailey, Ray Frahm, and Henry Brandt.

Conroy of Carroll; Mr. and Mrs. Emil Jones, Jefferson; Mr. Bob Perry, Omaha, Nebraska; Mr. Wayne Zender, and Mr. Al Brabin of Carroll; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred David and children, Audubon; Miss Vera Hinz, Omaha, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brandt, Denison; Mr. Herman Benson, Atlantic, Iowa; Mary Daniels, Carroll.

CARD OF THANKS
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our neighbors and friends who assisted us during the illness and at the death of our beloved son and brother. Our burdens were lightened by the respect manifested at the funeral services. We also wish to thank those who sent the many beautiful floral offerings, Pastor John M. Ansorge for his kind and consoling Words, Mrs. August Ross for the beautiful solos rendered, and all those who in any way participated to lighten our burden in the hour of sorrow.
