Edwin LeRoy Phillips, son of the late Holland Keet Phillips and Mildred Mae (Shelton) Phillips, was born May 6, 1933, in Battlefield, Missouri, and departed this life on December 1, 2007, at his home in Buffalo, Missouri. He was at the time of his passing 74 years, 6 months and 25 days of age.
Edwin spent his first 6 years in Battlefield, Missouri, before moving to Aspinwall, Iowa, and then to Buffalo, Missouri, in 1945. Edwin graduated from Buffalo High School in 1952 and began operating a service station. He entered the US Army in May of 1953 and spent 16 months in Korea. He was discharged in April of 1955. He was united in marriage with Ruth Elkins on June 2, 1957, in Wheaton, Missouri, and to this union two sons were born, both of whom survive him. They have made their home in the Buffalo area ever since their marriage. Edwin took over the management of the tire shop when his father's health failed. Both of his sons came into the business and the business name was changed to Phillips and Sons in the early 1980s. The fourth generation of the family is now involved in the shop. He also raised cattle and hogs on his "Seldom Seen Ranch."
Edwin loved traveling and he and Ruth had seen 49 states and at least 5 foreign countries in addition to his service time. He and Ruth had spent the last 22 winters in Arizona. He enjoyed his lake home and spent many hours fishing and living at the lake. He also hunted quail and deer. He was a member of VFW Post #4080 in Buffalo. His greatest love in life was his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ruth of the home; two sons, Duane & wife Deann Phillips of Buffalo, Missouri, and David & wife Becky Phillips of Buffalo, Missouri; his grandchildren, Ilene and Ricky Rose, Richard Phillips, Lee Phillips, Lynn Phillips, and Austin Davis; his great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Hayden Rose; one sister, Rosemary Gower of Springfield, Missouri, and a half-sister, Margaret Mae Lovelace of Palmyra, Missouri.
He also leaves other family members and many friends who will all truly miss him.
