Life Story of ALFRIEDA WOEST
Alfrieda Maria Ida Woest, the daughter of John Woest and his wife Anna Hollander, was born June 20, 1903, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, and died on June 8, 1954, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of 50 years.

She lived with her parents on a farm in Hayes Township until the year 1912 when they moved to the town of Aspinwall. In the year 1930, she and her parents moved to Manilla.

When her father and mother died, she began working for Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCracken. Since the year 1934 she had been in that home, first caring for Mrs. McCracken, and then caring for Mr. McCracken after the death of his wife.

On June 12, 1935, she was confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. F.C. Israel.

She remained a member of her church until her death. Frieda was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Priscilla Guild for nearly 20 years and was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

In January of this year, she went to Iowa City for observation and treatment. While in Iowa City she underwent surgery. After some time, she returned home again and seemed to show some improvement. She returned again to Iowa City for a check up and after a few days returned to her home. However, her health did not improve and on May 23 she was taken to the Memorial Hospital in Denison.

After being there for a few days, she went to the home of her half-brother, Otto Schmielau. She remained there for a few days and then returned to the hospital. From that time on her condition continued to grow more serious until she died Tuesday morning.

Survivors are a brother, Hugo of Rock Island, Illinois, two half-brothers, Otto and John of Manilla; two half-sisters, Laura of Milwaukee, and Emma of Rock Island, Illinois. Two half-sisters, Katie and Annie, preceded her in death.

The minister was Rev. L.W. Nutzmann. Burial was in Iowa Township Cemetery.
