ELSIE SPORRER
Mass if the Christian Burial for Elsie Sporrer of Carroll will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll with Father Timothy Schott officiating.

Mrs. Sporrer, 97, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at the Center for Long Term Care in Carroll.

Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. A Rosary will be recited at 3 Tuesday, and there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. by the parish. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

The lector for the Mass will be Chris Heim. Gift bearers will be Pam Sporrer, Kim Sporrer, Beth Sporrer, Lisa Sporrer, and Jodi Bellizzi. Mass servers will be Taylor Sporrer, Jason Brinker, and Jason Reed. Soloists will be Tyson Brinker, Kelsey Heim, and John Wagner. Eucharistic ministers will be Robyn Brinker, Mary Lou Julich, and Karen Heim.

Casket bearers will be Tom Sporrer, Jim Sporrer, Scott Snyder, Matt Lengeling, Eric Reinhart, and Bengi Steinkamp.

Elsie Sporrer was born January 17, 1905, at Manning, a daughter of Juergen and Catherine (Joens) Joens. She spent her younger years in the Manning community and attended Manning Schools.

On September 1, 1925, she was united in marriage to William Sporrer at Audubon. Following their marriage the couple farmed south of Templeton and then moved to Templeton. In 1936, they moved to their home in Carroll.

Mrs. Sporrer had been employed for many years at the Carroll Elk's Club. Since 1999, she made her home at Swan House in Carroll. She was a member of the St. Lawrence Parish and Parish Ladies Guild, and enjoyed crocheting rugs, working crossword puzzles, growing violets, and baking cookies.

Mrs. Sporrer is survived by two sons, Duane Sporrer and his wife, Vera, of Carroll, and Larry Sporrer of Carroll; a daughter-in-law, Penny Sporrer of Carroll; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Joens of Sun City, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Sporrer in 1977; a son, Donald Sporrer in 1985; a great-grandson, Stephen Snyder; eight brothers, Juergen, Herman, Eggert, Alfred, John, Bill, Henry, and Emil Joens; and two sisters, Emma Musfeldt and Alvena Van Vuren.
