She was born on a farm in Hayes Township and was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August and Trinke (Ehrichs) Hansen, who came from Germany.

On February 3rd, 1908, she was married to Mr. John Pencker. Two daughters were born to this union: Mary (Mrs. Ben) Steen of Manning, Iowa and Emma (Mrs. Andrew) Christensen of Audubon.
