Mr. and Mrs. William Plahn, who were called to Chicago on Friday, September 16, 1938, by the death of Mr. Plahn's aged father, Ferdinand Plahn, returned to Pierce last Wednesday. Funeral services were held in Chicago Monday, September 19th.
Deceased suffered a stroke on September 14th, passing away two days later.
During the two days he did not regain consciousness. He was born in Germany where he lived until he was 72 years of age. He and his wife, Caroline (Wolf), then came to the United States, first living with their son, William, at Pierce for some time and then going to Chicago to make, their home with a daughter. The mother died two years ago. Mr. Plahn was 87 years of age at the time of his death in Germany he worked as a shipbuilder.
Three daughters and three sons survive, Miss Magdalene Plahn, of Chicago with whom her parents lived, William, of Pierce; Herman of Carroll, Iowa; Mrs. Johanna Kaufman, New York; August, Manning, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Sorensen, Germany.
Also forty-one, grandchildren, a number of whom live in Pierce and vicinity.

Ferdinand Plahn Dies In Chicago
Mr. and Mrs. August Plahn received the report Saturday that Mr. Plahn's father,
Ferdinand Plahn had expired at the home of his daughter, Magdalena Plahn, in
Chicago, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Plahn made immediate preparations for leaving
for Chicago and left here Saturday evening by train. Mr. Chris Hollander accompanied them.
Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Mahn are well remembered in Manning because they lived here for some time after arriving from Germany in October 1922, when they made their home with their son August and family. For a few years they also made their home with their sons, Mr. Henry Mahn, living in Carroll and William in Pierce, Nebraska, and later with their two daughters in Chicago where they have resided since.
Ferdinand Plahn was born on March 31, 1851, in Meldorf, Holstein, Germany. He learned the carpenter trade in his native country and finally became a master ship builder, at which trade he worked until coming to America when he retired from active life after spending about fifty-five years at the same trade.
On January 10, 1873, Mr. Plahn was married to Miss Caroline Wolf at Elmshorn, where they started housekeeping and reared a family of eleven children, of whom five preceded their father in death. Three died in their tender years, and Ferdinand, a son, was swept into the North Sea in a flood, at the age of 11 years when they lived at Buesum, Holstein.
A daughter, Mrs. Edward Pruessner of Chicago, died in February 1938. His wife Mrs. Plahn died on April 10, 1936.
Mr. and Mrs. Plahn celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on January 10, 1923, at the home of their son. William at Pierce, Nebraska. They enjoyed a total of 63 years of happy married life.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 19, 1938, at the Concordia Cemetery, Forest Park, Illinois, beside his wife.
The surviving children are: William Plahn of Pierce, Nebraska; Henry Plahn of Carroll, Iowa; August Plahn of Manning, Iowa; Magdalene Plahn of Chicago, Illinois; Johanna, of New York City, and Anna in Germany.
Mr. Plahn was 87 years of age and a very active man. He
enjoyed good health until last spring when he suffered a paralytic stroke, from
which he had almost entirely recovered, when he was stricken the second time about a week ago.
