Florence W. Walters
Florence E. Walters, 83, was born on February 6, 1924, in Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of William and Elma (Shur) Hingst. As an infant, they moved to Michigan and then to Iowa in 1935, attending schools in both Michigan and Iowa. Florence married Ivan Walter(s) {son of William and Amelia (Kai) Walter} on October 9, 1948, in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1965, they moved to Worthington, Minnesota. Florence worked at Campbell Soup Company for 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, the VFW, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Florence died on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, Minnesota.

Florence is survived by two sons, Ronald Walters, of Sioux City, Iowa, and Gary (Darci) Walters, of Worthington, Minnesota; one daughter, Pam (Kelly) Merchant, of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren; one step grandchild, and special friends, Cindy and Gary Loerts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan, on May 26, 2000, two sons, four sisters, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2007, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota, with the Rev. Robert Schulze officiating. Casket bearers will be Ryan Walters, Matt Walters, Larry Sievertsen, Gary Loerts, Roger >Bakkene, Jim Salmons, and John Hoffman. Burial will be in the Worthington Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home.

Note: Apparently Ivan added an "s" to his last name when he moved to Minnesota - according to the tombstone.

His paternal father was William Walter and Ivan's siblings all go by Walter.
