Mr. Miller had been bedfast at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred and Hilda Osten, for 10 days before being taken to the hospital. Early in the fall he had suffered an attack of influenza which is thought was the forerunner of the illness that proved fatal.
Funeral services are to be at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Huffman Funeral home, where the body is resting until the time of the rites. The Rev. Waldemar E. Hinch, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller came to Carroll from Manning 33 years ago, Mr. Miller having taken over the office of clerk of the district court in January 1913. He had held the same office from 1901 to 1904, inclusive, but the family home had been maintained at Manning during that time.
His second tenure of office covered the years from January 1, 1913, to January 1, 1923. Since then, he had served as justice of the peace here.
Mr. Miller had been a member of the state inheritance tax appraisers board for 23 years. He had also served as chairman of the democratic county committee for several years.
Son of Ernst and Christina (Ketelsen) Müller, born near Davenport, Scott County, Iowa, November 28, 1863, Fred came to Manning in early manhood. He was engaged in various lines of business there before locating in Carroll.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller, who were married in Carroll June 12, 1890, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1940. Mrs. Miller, also a native of Scott County, was Anna Hinrichs before her marriage.
Mrs. Miller is ill at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Burrell and Thelka Fisk, where she has been confined to bed since suffering a heart attack December 21.
Besides his wife, Mr. Miller leaves his two daughters: Mrs.
A.A. Osten (Hilda) and Mrs. B.W. Fisk (Thekla), both of Carroll; one grandson,
Private Wayne Osten, who is at Calcutta, India, where he has been stationed
since July 1 with the selective service unit in the motor pool, and one
great-granddaughter, Louayne Osten. He had six sisters, three of whom are living.

Final Rites Are Conducted For Fred Miller, 82
The Huffman Funeral home was filled with relatives and friends at funeral
services yesterday afternoon for Fred Miller, justice of the peace and former
clerk of the District court of Carroll County, who died at the St. Anthony Hospital Saturday morning.
The Rev. Waldemar E. Hinck, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, officiated. A quartet composed of Mrs. John Backes, Mrs. Curby Sims, Mrs. Abner Strohm, and Miss Ida Bohl sang "The Twenty-Third Psalm" and "Abide With Me," accompanied by Mrs. Victor Jons, pianist.
State highway patrolmen formed an escort to the Carroll Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Flynn, Arthur N. Neu, Martin Emmick, Frank Buchheit, and M.J. Thelen, all of Carroll, and Fay Lehmkuhl of Denison.
Out-of-town relatives at the services included: Mr. and Mrs. James Mundt and daughter, Bernice, and Mr. and Mrs. John Anthony, Manning; Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Thiedeman, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schoessler, Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Thiedeman, Henry Hagge, and Mr. and Mrs. Reynold Hagge, Westside; Mr. and Mrs. August Gruhn, Manilla, and Mrs. Louis Koester, daughter, and son, Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Mr. Miller, son of Ernst and Christina (Ketelsen) Miller, was born November 28, 1863, near Davenport, Scott County, Illinois. He had attended business college in Davenport before coming to Manning when about 20 years old.
On locating in Manning, he worked for John Jay in the clothing business. Then, in 1890, he went into partnership with Hans Reimers in an implement and hardware store, this relationship Continuing until 1895, when Mr. Miller became sole owner of the establishment.
At that time Mr. Miller served as mayor of Manning. He was a charter member of Manning's Fire Department. He was married to Anna Hinrichs at Carroll June 12, 1890. Mrs. Miller was originally of Scott County.

A granddaughter, Maxine Osten, died July 1, 1933.
Mr. Miller had six sisters, three of whom survive: Mrs. Fred
Zahel (Lena), Mrs. George Randolph Meta) and Mrs. Chris Wiese (Thekla), all of
Davenport. The three who preceded him in death were: Mrs. Billy
Smith (Anna), Mrs. Alvina Wolfe, and Mrs. William Ott (Tilly).
