Funeral services for Fred Wiese, 66, who died at the St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Friday, July 8, 1938, were held at the Ohde Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Frank Throw, pastor of the Manilla Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial was in the Manning Cemetery and pallbearers were Pete Mailer, Fred Maller, Robert Sinow, William Schultz, Fred Grau, and John Frahm.
Mr. Wiese had been ill for three months prior to his death.
Fred Wiese was born in Denmark March 29, 1872, son of Christopher and Anna Wiese, and came to this country at the age of nine years. For the next two years the family lived in New York and then came directly to Carroll County where he lived until December 1937, when he moved to Manilla. Throughout his active life he was a farmer.
In 1894, he was married to Matilda Goettsch of Manning. He was a member of the Lutheran Church.
Besides his father, mother and wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Chris Hargens, William, Louis, Fred, Henry, Conrad, Mrs. Ed Grau, and Herbert. There are forty grandchildren.
Surviving also are a brother, Nels Wiese, of Manilla, a sister, Mrs. Hannes Schmidt, of Manning, and a half-brother, Peter Wiese, of Hammond, Louisiana.
One brother, Chris, preceded him in death.
Relatives from a distance who attended the rites were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Grau of Walcott, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Wiese of Council Bluffs, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Kindred of Davenport.
Fred Wiese Is Laid To Rest
Funeral services for Mr. Fred Wiese, for a number of years a resident of this community, were held Sunday afternoon.
Fred Wiese was born March 29, 1872, in Denmark, and came to this country when
nine years old. He lived around New York until 1881 and then came with his
parents to Carroll County, living around Carroll and Audubon counties most of
his life until December 1937 when they moved to Manilla where he lived until
the Manilla where he lived until June 7th when he was taken to the Carroll
hospital where he passed away June 8th at 9 p.m.
He was united in marriage to Matilda Goettch, February 16, 1894, and to this
union eight children were born, all of whom with their mother survive him. The
children are: Anna, Mrs. Chris Hargens; William, Louie, Fred, Henry, Conrad;
Alma, Mrs. Ed Grau of Walcott, Iowa; and Herbert. He is also survived by one
sister, Lena Mrs. Hannes Schmidt, one brother Nels and a half-brother, Peter
Wiese of Hammond, Louisiana; and forty-two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Chris.
Funeral services were held at the Ohde Funeral Home at Manning, Sunday
afternoon with Rev. Throw of Manilla officiating. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.
Pall bearers were Fred Moeller, Peter Moeller, John Frahm, August Schultz, and Robert Sinow.
