Mr. West was born June, 4, 1869, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the son of E.B. West and Artimza Ashburn.
December 24, 1889, he was married to Miss Mary Dorcas Johnson at Battle Creek. Mr. and Mrs. West celebrated their golden wedding anniversary December 24, 1939. Mrs. John Alexander, sister of Mrs. West, and Mr. Frank West, brother of Mr. West, who were the attendants when Mr. and Mrs. West were married were present for the anniversary and for the funeral services Sunday.
Mr. West was the father of five children, three of whom survive, with his widow. They are E.G. West of Manning, Lester B. West of Kingsley, and Mrs. John F. Reinhold (Gretta) of Audubon. Two daughters preceded him in death, Mrs. Harry Claussen (Merle) on January 29, 1916, and Genevieve on March 13, 1916.
Seven grandchildren survive, Mrs. C A. Stipe of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; John David Reinhold of the U.S. Navy; Lt. LaMorne M. (West) Miller, A.N.C., El Paso, Texas; Merle West, Manning, Phyllis West of Los Angeles, California, Jack and Carol Jean West, of Kingsley, and one great-grandchild, David West, of Manning; one brother, Frank West of Ida Grove and one sister, Mrs. Bert Harvey of Sioux City.
Two sisters preceded him in death, Mrs. Laura Ertel and Mrs. Lizzie Roe.
Mr. West came to Manning twenty-nine years ago. Until his health failed, Mr. West arose every morning about four o'clock and met the morning trains to care for the Manning mail and express. Though suffering from a heart ailment, he insisted upon doing the work himself until a few months ago. He had been seriously ill for the past four weeks and passed away at his home Friday, December 17, 1943.

George West
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Ohde Funeral Home for
George West, 74, conducted by the Rev. Arthur Raeside.
He was born in Battle Creek, coming to Manning from Mapleton 29 years ago. He
was married to Miss Mary Dorcas Johnson, December 24, 1889. They observed their golden wedding four years ago.
He is survived by his widow; three children, Elzie G. West of Manning, Lester
B. West of Kingsley, and Mrs. John Reinhold (Gretta) of Audubon; seven
grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Frank West of Ida Grove and a sister, Mrs. Bert Harvey of Sioux City.
