George lived on the farm with his parents and received his education in Hayes No. 8, a rural school near his home. After receiving his education, he worked as a farm hand for various families in the area, including Herman Kruse, Hugo Schrum, and Pat McCaffery, as well as helping his parents on the family farm near Vail.
In 1944, George began working for the Leonard Keating family where he remained for 33 years. Additionally, he worked for Clarence Kortman at the Charter Oak Implement Store, Iowa Beef Processors, the Milwaukee Railroad, and helped Junior Keating. In 1960, he was self-employed as a Star Route mail carrier which served the Charter Oak and Schleswig areas.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak where he attended services regularly. He enjoyed occupying his spare time with repairing old furniture and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include six brothers: Elmer of Vail, Alvin and his
wife, Enid of Vail, Leonard and his wife, Jean of Omaha, Emil and his wife,
Ruthanna of Arcadia, Wilmer and his wife, Darlene of Vail, Clarence and his
wife, Nina of Coleridge, Nebraska; two sisters, Viola Dozark of Vail and Ila Crampton of Denison.
