Helen Charlotte Puck

Funeral services for Helen Charlotte Puck were held Monday, February 26, 1996, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Manning, Iowa. Reverend Larry McAlpine officiated the service with Connie Siepker as organist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with Helen's grandsons as casket-bearers: Randal Lauritsen, Gregory Puck, Mike Lauritsen, Bradley Puck, Steven Cole, Todd Puck, David Cole, Jeremy Puck, Jason Ernst, and Daniel Puck. Honorary casketbearers were Helen's granddaughters: Stacy Hansen, Sara Puck, Brenda Puck, Nancy Puck, Carrie Ernst, Mary Puck and Amy Puck.

Helen, daughter of Anton and Rachel (Hindman) Moeckl, was born April 21, 1917, at Olivet, in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. She grew up in Olivet and attended Menno, South Dakota schools until the age of 16. At that time Helen moved with her family to the Manning area, south of Gray. After completing her schooling, she worked as a hired girl in the Gray area.

On February 5, 1941, Helen was united in marriage with Edward Puck. Six children were born to this union. They lived near Ross for a period of time before moving to a farm east of Gray where they lived for 23 years. In 1964 they moved to the Gardner farm east of Hamlin and four years later moved to the Puck family farm south of Manning. In 1979, when her husband retired from farming, they moved into Manning. After Edward's death in 1988 Helen continued to live in Manning. In 1992 she moved to the Terrace Apartments.

Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church, Martha Circle, and Bible Study. She was an active member of the Quilting Hobby Group and the Helen, Agnes and Minnie Quilting Group. In addition to her quilting she enjoyed visiting with her neighbors and being with her family, and especially babysitting her grandchildren.

Helen died suddenly and unexpectedly at the Terrace Apartments in Manning on Wednesday evening, February 21, 1996, at the age of 78 years and 10 months.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Moeckl.

Survivors include her children: Ella and her husband, Earl Lauritsen of Exira; Wanda and her husband, Allan Johnson, of Grand Canyon, Arizona; Helen and her husband, Steven Ernst, of Le Mars; Edward Puck and his wife, Vicki, of Carroll; Garry Puck and his wife, Becky, of Manning; and Ben Puck and his wife, Kathy, of Manning; seventeen grandchildren: Randal and Mike Lauritsen; Steven and David Cole; Jason and Carrie Ernst; Stacy Hansen; Greg, Amy, and Brad Puck; Brenda, Todd and Sara Puck; and Jeremy, Nancy, Mary and Daniel Puck; four great-grandchildren: Zoey and Ben Cole; Chance Lauritsen; and Jordan Hansen; two sisters: Marlene Richardson of Brittany, Louisiana and Alma and her husband, Arthur Heuss, of Audubon; two sisters-in-law, Jean Moeckl of Des Moines and Maggie Puck of Manning; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
