Henry Steen of Manning Dies Friday, 4 P.M.
Henry Steen, 73, died at his home in Manning at 4 p.m. Friday after an illness of several months.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Other arrangements for the services have not been completed.
Mr. Steen farmed near Manning for many years. Survivors include his wife, four children: Emil Steen, Grover Steen, Mrs. Frank (Amanda), and Ed Steen, all living near Manning, and three granddaughters.

OBITUARY OF HENRY STEEN
Henry Steen, the youngest son of Joachem Steen and Wilhelmina Horning, was born August 4, 1865, in Gnissau, Kries Segeberg, Germany. He passed away at his home in Manning following a long illness, Friday, April 1, 1938.

He came to America with his parents in May 1882, settling at Lost Nation, Clinton County, Iowa.

Here he married Miss Rosa Ehlers January 27, 1890. Shortly after their marriage they came to Manning, first farming north of town, then purchasing a farm south of town.

Here they lived until they retired in 1920. For several years they traveled and enjoyed life, spending several winters in California and some time in Canada.

In 1926, they purchased their home in Manning where they have since lived.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Steen. One, child, Ida, passed away in 1902, when one and one-half years old.

The others, with their mother, survive. They are Emil, Grover, Amanda, (Mrs. Frank Stoelk), and Ed. Three granddaughters, Betty, Velma, and Donna Steen.

Mr. Steen was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his native land.

Funeral services were conducted at the Ohde Funeral Home, Monday, April 4, at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. E.J. Hough, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church at Shenandoah, in charge.

Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Gruhn, William Nulle, John Frahm, Peter Ploen, George Pfoltner, and John Schroeder.

Mr. Steen had lived in Manning for the last two years. Previously he farmed near Manning.
He is survived by his widow, three sons, Emil, Grover, and Edward Steen, and a daughter, Amanda, Mrs. Frank Stoelk, all living near Manning.

Last Rites Held For Henry Steen
The community was grieved to learn of the death of one of its beloved Pioneer residents when the word was spread last Friday that Henry Steen had passed away at this home following an illness of some duration.

Henry Steen was born August 4, 1865, in Gnissau Kreis Segeberg, Germany. He left Gravenhorst, Holstein, Germany, and came to America with his parents, Joachim and Wilhelmena (Horning) Steen, a brother Fred, coming as far west as Lost Nation, Clinton County, Iowa, in May 1882.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

In January 27, 1890, he was united in marriage with Miss Rosa Ehlers. The couple then moved to a farm and lived around Manning for a number of years.

In 1920, Mr. and Mrs. Steen retired and spent several years traveling. They have made their home in Manning since 1926. To this union were born five children: Ida who preceded him in death in 1892; Emil and Grover, Amanda, (Mrs. Frank Stoelk), and Edward. Besides his bereaved wife and children, he leaves three granddaughters. All of the family live in this vicinity.

The deceased had been in ill health for a year and death came April 1st, 1938. He was 72 years, 7 months, and 27 days of age.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Ohde Funeral Home with Rev. E.J. Hough of Shenandoah officiating.

Interment was in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Fred Gruhn, George Pfoltner, William Nulle, John Frahm, Peter Ploen, and John Schroeder.
