A Respected Citizen at Rest
March 10, 1910 Manning Monitor

Juergen Heinrich “Henry” Stuhr, of near Botna, Died on Monday and Burial took Place Here Yesterday.

Last Monday, Henry Stuhr, an old settler and highly respected citizen living near Botna, quietly passed away at the home after a period of failing health extending back for some time. Mr. Stuhr came to this country as one of the pioneer settlers and has lived here ever since. His life has been such that he early gained the respect of all he became acquainted with and held their respect until death called him from earth. He was born February 25, 1833, in Holstein, Germany and at his death February 7, was 79 years, and 10 days old.

In 1880, he moved to America and settled in Philadelphia where he lived for one year. From thence he moved to this community where he has since lived. To mourn his death he leaves a wife, Ida (Clearson) and twelve children. One death occurred within the family earlier. Most of the children live near Manning and no father could say that a better family of sons and daughters were brought to womanhood and manhood. All are highly respected citizens and their loss of their father is a loss keenly felt, not only by them but by their friend. The sons and daughters are Mrs. Mollie Bohnsack; Mrs. Dora Stoelk; Mrs. Henry Windisch, of Templeton; Mrs. Peter Frahm, of Mason City; Mrs. Lena Coleman; Mrs. Eva Krause, of Carroll; Theodore Stuhr; Charles Stuhr; Henry Stuhr, and Chris Stuhr who lately moved to North Dakota. All were present except Mrs. Frahm, and Chris Stuhr. Rev. Hobson, United Brethren minister, of Botna, gave the funeral address and spoke many kind and consoling words to the sorrowing relatives and friends. Later the body was shipped to Manning where a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends followed the body to the Manning Cemetery where tender hands laid the body in its last resting place. Thus closes the life of a good man. He was a kind husband, an excellent father and a good neighbor. His influence however is not lost. For years his life will be remembered, and many a person could be better if he live life as he has lived. The heart-felt sympathy of many friends go out to the bereaved mother and sons and daughters and relatives in their sad hour.
