Henry W. Steen of Manning Dies; Funeral Pending
Henry Wilhelm Steen, 80, father of Ben Steen of Estherville, formerly of Carroll, died at 9:45 Sunday night at St. Anthony Hospital here. Mr. Steen, who had been in poor health a long time, has been taken from the Tryon Nursing Home here to the hospital two days before his death.

The body is at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, Iowa, awaiting completion of arrangements.

Henry Wilhelm Steen was born April 28, 1868, in Brodersdorf, Kries Plain (Schleswig Holstein), Germany. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. From 1889 to 1891 he served in the German Navy at Wilhelmsha attached to the Second Wharf Division.

Coming to America in March 1897, Mr. Steen located is Ida County. He was in business at Holstein until August 1899.

Shortly after his marriage to Augusta Marie Roggenbuch at Ida Grove August 8, 1899, the couple moved to Manning. They left Manning in March 1903, to live at Scotland, South Dakota, where Mr. Steen was in business.

Coming back to Manning in July 1904, Mr. and Mrs. Steen farmed until 1928, when they moved into town. Mrs. Steen died January 20, 1947.

Mr. Steen was also preceded in death by a son, Arthur, December 31, 1930, and a daughter. Mrs. Frank Delk (Yulanda), February 13, 1931.

Surviving is the son, Ben Steen, Estherville; one grandchild, Patricia Steen; a brother, Adolph, Lincoln, Nebraska, and a sister, Emma, in Germany.

Funeral services were held at the Ohde Funeral home at Manning Wednesday for Henry Wilhelm Steen, 80, who died at a Carroll hospital Sunday. He had been ill for some time. The Rev. Brown Garlock officiated.

Steen was born April 28, 1868, in Germany. He came to the U.S. in March 1897, and settled in Ida County. He was in business in Holstein until 1899. He was married to Auguste Marie Roggenbuch at Ida Grove in 1899; the couple moved to Manning. They farmed in the Manning community until 1928 when they moved to town. Mrs. Steen died January 20, 1947.

Survivors are one son, Ben Steen of Estherville; a brother, Adolph Steen of Lincoln, Nebraska, and one sister, Emma, still in Germany.
