HERMAN NISSEN
Funeral services for Herman Nissen, 67, will be at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the Huffman Funeral Home and 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Harold Kieck will officiate. Burial will be in the Carroll Cemetery.

Mr. Nissen had been employed at the power plant of the Iowa Public Service Company for 11 years prior to his retirement in 1964.

He died of a heart attack at 9:25 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks.

Mr. Nissen, son of Carl and Christine (Tomsen) Nissen, both deceased, was born August 30, 1889, at Almdorf, Schleswig Holstein. He attended high school in Germany and served with the German Army for two years.

Coming to the United States in 1913, he located at Dow City.

He was married to Lilly Petersen February 6, 1918, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

Before moving to Carroll 18 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Nissen farmed in the Manilla, Manning, and Templeton areas.

The family home here is at 721 North Crawford Street.

Mr. Nissen is survived by his wife; three children, Mrs. Vernon (Vivaine) Thede, Carroll; Wailes "Bud" Nissen, Omaha, and Mrs. Leonard (Marola) Martens, Carroll; two granddaughters, Carolyn and Donna Kay Martens; a step-grandson, Larry Cox, Bedford; five brothers; and four sisters in Germany.

A sister, Bertha, preceded him in death.

Mr. Nissen was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

HERMAN NISSEN
Herman Nissen, 68, of 721 North Crawford Street, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at St. Anthony Hospital late Monday morning. He had been hospitalized about two weeks.
The body is at the Huffman Funeral Home, awaiting completion of arrangements.
