JACK WAILES
Jack Wailes, 85, of Manning died Friday, July 21, 1972, at the Manning Plaza nursing home, where he had resided for about three months.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning, where friends may call starting at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. George McMullen, pastor of the United Methodist Church at Irwin, will officiate; burial will be in the Highland Township Cemetery near Bayard.

Mr. Wailes was born January 5, 1887, near Bayard and at the age of four months moved to England, where he attended school and in 1909 was married to Hanna Park. They came to the United States in 1913 and lived near Bayard. Later Mr. Wailes started working as an agent for the Milwaukee Railroad and they moved to Manning in 1928. He retired from the railroad in 1956 and they continued to live here.

Surviving with his wife are four children: Mrs. Gilbert (Nellie) Hinners of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Robert of Boone, Mrs. Elsworth (Doris) Shannon of Kirkman, and William of Manning; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Two sisters preceded him in death.

Wailes Rites Held in Manning
Funeral services for John Wailes, 85, former Bayard resident, were held Monday, July 24, at 2 p.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Burial was at Highland Cemetery at Bayard. Relatives attending from Bayard were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Jackson and Grant Wailes.

Jack Wailes, son of Robert and Ellen (Burns) Wailes, was born in Guthrie County near Bayard January 5, 1887, and died at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home Friday, July 21.

He was married to Hannah Parks and they were parents of four daughters and two sons. They lived in Bayard many years. Mr. Wailes was a clerk for the Milwaukee Railroad, retiring in 1956.

Surviving is his wife, who is in the Manning hospital with a broken hip following a stroke; two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Nellie) Hinners of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Ellsworth (Doris) Shannon of Kirkman; two sons, Robert of Boone and Billy of Manning; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two daughters, Dorothy, who died in infancy and Esther Wailes Bonneson, and a sister, Maggie Wanes, who died in 1944.

Wailes
Robert Wailes, a resident of the Masonic sanitarium since 1935, died at 5 a.m. today following an extended illness.
He was born in North Umberland, England, October 2, 1859, and for many years resided in Bayard, Iowa.
Surviving are a son, John, of Manning, Iowa, and a daughter, Maggie, of Bayard.
The body was taken to the Horrigan Home For Funerals.

Jack Wailes Of Manning Wed Fifty Years
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wailes of Manning observed their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, December 28, 1958, by holding open house at the Manning Methodist Church during the afternoon. A family dinner was served at Pauline's Cafe in Carroll Saturday evening.

The reception table was laid with white and centered with a three-tiered wedding cake in white and gold. Tiers were separated by white glass swans. Four gold wedding slippers and large gold roses adorned the lower tier; the cake was topped with a large gold bell in a belfry. White lattice work and gold roses decorated the other tiers of the cake, which was flanked by gold tapers in two-branch candelabra. A centerpiece arrangement in gold was also on the table.

Mrs. Gilbert Hinners of Milwaukee was at the silver service; Mrs. Robert Wailes of Atlantic cut the cake; Mrs. Robert McGrath of Omaha was in charge of the guest hook: Patty Shannon, Larry Wailes and Mary Joan Hinners, of the gifts.

Jack and Hannah Wailes were married January 1, 1909, in the parish church at Wesmare, England. They came to the United States in October 1913, and located at Bayard.

They are the parents of six children: Mrs. Esther Bonneson, who was born in England, passed away in Manning; a daughter, Dorothy, died in infancy at Bayard. Other children are Mrs. Gilbert (Nellie) Hinners, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Mrs. Ellsworth (Doris) Wailes, Kirkman; Robert Wailes, Atlantic and Bill Wailes, Audubon. The couple also reared two grandchildren: Jerry Bonneson, who is stationed with the Navy in Alaska; and Mrs. Robert (Janet Bonneson) McGrath of Omaha.

There are 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wailes was a clerk for the Milwaukee Railroad for 38 years, 28 of them in Manning, where the couple has lived since 1928. He retired in 1956.

A short program was presented during the afternoon reception.

Mrs. Bill Wailes sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Through the Years." Patty and Nancy Shannon and Linda Ferry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vic Ferry of Irwin, gave a dance. Larry Wailes, son of Bob Wailes, played accordion numbers. Robert McGrath acted as master of ceremonies, and presented Mr. and Mrs. Wailes with a gold money tree.
