Janice Rae (Vehrs) Miskimins
Janice Rae Miskimins, age 81, of Carroll passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center West Lakes in Des Moines, surrounded by her family.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 5, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll, with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Organist for the service will be Abe Batten and soloist will be Marv Toft. Casket bearers will be Janice's grandchildren. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Friday where there will be a prayer service held at 6:30 P.M. The casket will be moved to St. Paul Lutheran Church at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday where visitation will resume until the time of service.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.

Born on June 26, 1937 on her family's farm near Denison, Iowa, Janice was the daughter of Harold and Verna (Grage) Vehrs. She went to Hayes No. 8 country school in Crawford County as a girl and her family moved to Manning where she graduated from high school in 1956. Janice attended cosmetology school in Des Moines and returned to Manning where she operated Cut and Curl beauty shop.

Janice was married to Gene Miskimins on November 30, 1959, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home on the Miskimins family farm near Templeton for several years before moving to a farm near Gray and later a farm near Audubon. Janice worked at American Home Shield in Carroll for several years. They moved to Carroll in November 2016.

While living in Audubon she was active with St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and later became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. Janice enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading, and scrapbooking. She was active with the farming operation and thoroughly loved farm life, and she especially loved being with her grandchildren. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

Janice is survived by her husband, Gene, of 59 years; four daughters: Vickie (Robert), Cathy, Linda (Mike), and Lori (Brian); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Lois (Marvin), Rita, and Cindy (Bob); two brothers-in-law: Merle and Marvin (Lois); and many nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Verna Vehrs; her mother and father-in-law, Walter and Catherine Miskimins; a sister, Verna Stracke; two brothers: Richard and Larry Vehrs; and a daughter, Rhonda Miskimins, in infancy.
