Wednesday Rites For Jochim Ploen
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ohde Funeral Home for Jochim Ploen, 95, who died at his home here Sunday night, August 15, 1948. He was born in Germany October 6, 1852. The Rev. Harlan Kruse, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

BURIAL will be in the Manning Cemetery beside his wife, Dorthea (Wiese) Ploen, who died April 25, 1946.

Pallbearers will be the same grandsons who served as pallbearers for Mrs. Ploen: Harry and Herman Ploen and Freddie and John Moeller, Manning; Harold Kienapfel, Carroll, and Thomas Sharp, Dow City.

Mr. Ploen had been in fairly good health until he fell and cracked his hip 15 weeks ago. He had been bedfast since then.

SURVIVING are five children, 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.


Death Claims Jochim Ploen At Age Of 95
Jochim Ploen, 95-year-old Manning pioneer, died at his home here late Sunday night, August 15, 1948. He had been ill for some time.

The body is at the Ohde Funeral Home, awaiting completion of funeral arrangements.

Mr. Ploen was born October 6, 1852, in Stakendorf, Probstei, Holstein, Germany. He was married to Dorothea Wiese November 19, 1875, in the town of his birth.

The couple came to Iowa June 1, 1881, from Germany and located in Carroll County. They farmed from 1884 until their retirement in 1915.

Mrs. Ploen died a few years ago.

Mr. Ploen leaves five children: Peter C. Ploen, Manning: William Ploen, at home: Mrs. Fred Moeller (Metha), and Mrs. Fred Kienapfel (Caroline), Manning, and Emil Ploen, Culver City, California.

FOUR CHILDREN are deceased: Jochim Henry, Emma, Herman Conrad, and Helena. The two last named died in Germany.

Mr. Ploen was the last of a family of six children.

He was a member of the Daily Times Herald Three Quarter Century Club.
