LAURA CECILE POPP
Laura, daughter of Charles F. and Christine (Holst) Hinze, was born November 27, 1892 near Arcadia in Carroll County, Iowa. She was educated in the country schools.

On November 27, 1913 Laura was united in marriage with Detlef H. Popp in Arcadia, Iowa. The couple farmed in Carroll County until retiring in 1947 when they moved to Manning, Iowa. Her husband passed away on February 15, 1959. Laura continued to live in Manning. She moved to the Terrace Apartments in the early 1970s where she remained until May 12, 1987, at which time she went to Eventide Nursing Home in Denison. Laura had been in failing health and passed away on Monday, August 29, 1988 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital at the age of 95 years, 9 months, and 2 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by two sons, Elvin, on June 7, 1987 and Marvin, on October 26, 1967; by a daughter, Muriel, on June 14, 1967; by two brothers, Herbert Hinze and Leonard Hinze; and by a sister, Lillie Eckholdt.

Laura is survived by a son, Russell Popp and his wife, Margaret, of Ute, Iowa; by a daughter, Phillis and her husband, Don Wilson, of Hesperia, California; by a daughter-in-law, Jaenice Popp, of Manning; by 12 grandchildren; by 16 great-grandchildren; by a sister, Hazel Culver, of Seattle, Washington; and by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Laura was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manning and also the church ladies organization.
