LaVerne Wailes
LaVerne Wailes, age 94, of Boone, died May 14, 2016, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 19, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Boone, with Rev. Gary Armstrong officiating. Following the service, a lunch and fellowship will be held at the Church, followed by burial in the Cemetery in Bayard.

LaVerne Ann (Umland) Wailes, was born in Fargo, North Dakota, on October 12, 1921, the daughter of Albert and Emma (Rostermund) Umland.

She married Robert Wailes in Manning, Iowa, on May 19, 1940.

LaVerne worked for Boone Community School District in the Food Service Department. She began working in the elementary schools and later became kitchen manager at Boone High School.

Laverne was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Purple Hat Ladies.

She enjoyed going for walks, playing cards, knitting and making stocking hats, solving Sudoku and number puzzle books, and reading Danielle Steel books. LaVerne enjoyed being with her family and sharing in their activities.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, grandson Robert Wailes, a daughter-in-law Joni Wailes, two brothers, Willis and Merlin, and two sisters, Viola and Virgene.

LaVerne is survived by three sons, Larry Wailes and wife Mariela, and Rick Wailes, all of Boone, and Dennis Wailes and wife Connie of Atlantic; two sisters, Betty Young of Audubon and Barb Linn and husband Larry of Atlantic; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
