Mrs. Schmidt, who had been afflicted with a heart condition for two years, became seriously ill Friday night.
The former Mamie Opperman, she was born June 20, 1902, in Crawford County. Her father, William Opperman, preceded her in death.
She was married January 9, 1924, to Henry Johannes Schmidt. The couple lived in Manning and also farmed prior to Mr. Schmidt's death May 6, 1934. After his death, Mrs. Schmidt returned to the home of her parents, where she lived for 18 years.
Surviving are three children: Harold, Manning; Glen, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Ruth, Manning; her mother, Mrs. Margaret (Karsten) Opperman; one sister, Mrs. Fred (Lena) Ranniger, Carroll, and two brothers, Emil J. and Rudolph Opperman, Manning. One child died in infancy.
