Former Resident Dies In South Dakota
Mrs. Maria Schrock, 57, wife of Herman Schrock, died suddenly Saturday evening, June 22, 1940, at the family home in the south part of Flandreau, South Dakota. She had prepared the evening meal as usual, but when she felt ill she went to lie down, thinking the attack would pass off in a few minutes. She passed away before her companion realized that her condition was critical.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the German Lutheran Church in Egan, where the pastor, Rev. J. Jungemann, conducted the rites. Interment was made in Union Cemetery in Flandreau.

Mrs. Schrock was born as Maria Paulina Porsch, at Manning, Iowa, on May 2, 1883. She died June 23, 1940, at Flandreau, South Dakota, at the age of 57 years, 1 month, and 19 days.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Manning.

In the year 1903 she was married to Herman Schrock and together they established a home on a farm near Manning. where they lived until February, 1907, at which time they moved to Moody County, South Dakota.

They lived on a farm eight miles south of Flandreau until the year 1916 when the family moved to Appleton, Minn. In 1938 Mr. and Mrs. Schrock returned to Flandreau to make their home in the south part of the city, where they were living when fate intervened to bring a sudden end to their companionship.

Mr. and Mrs. Schrock were the parents of eleven children, one of whom, a daughter, died in infancy. Surviving the mother are ten; five daughters and five sons, who are Mrs. Minnie Hoernemann, Odessa, Minnesota; Mrs. Alma Rheingans, Appleton, Minnesota; Mrs. Anna Rheingans, Salinas, California; Mrs. Elvina Haben, Correll, Minnesota; Mrs. Erna Larson, Appleton, Minnesota; Walter Schrock, Audubon, Iowa; Henry and Louie Schrock, Appleton, Minnesota; Hugo Schrock of Breda, Iowa; and Clifford, with the U.S. Navy, San Pedro, California. She is also mourned by ten grandchildren and two brothers and two sister who are Adolph and Theodore Porsch, Mrs. Sophie Weimann, and Miss Ella Porsch.

Zahnou, Mrs. H.A. Bernecker, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schuberto and daughter of Monting, California, Hugo Schrock of Breda Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schrock, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Porsch and family of Audubon, Iowa, Mrs. Lawrence Pettersen of Gray, Iowa, Mrs. John Froyd and son of Manning, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Borkowski and daughter, Mrs. Richard Lehwald, Miss Ella Porsch, Reinholdt Borkowski, Mr. and Mrs. William Weimann, John Weible, Mr. and Mrs. John Kienast, Herman Kienast, August Kienast, Mrs. Herman Schmidt, all of Audubon, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Ross and daughter of Manilla, Iowa, Mrs. Carl Johnson Sioux City, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Porsch and daughter of Yale, Iowa.
