Marlene Zimmerman, 89 of Griswold, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Cass Health in Atlantic, Iowa. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold with Rev. Brad Robey officiating. Visitation with the family to greet friends will be held one hour prior to the funeral beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Carson Cemetery in Carson, Iowa. Loess Hills Funeral Home in Carson is caring for Marlene and her family.

Marlene Zimmerman, 89 of Griswold, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Cass Health in Atlantic, Iowa.

Marlene was born on April 26, 1935, in Manning, Iowa, the daughter of Louie and Elsie (Sinow) Hargens. She graduated from Manning High School in 1953. She then took nursing training and worked at the Manning Hospital. Later in life she worked at the Griswold Care Center.

Marlene and Leo Emil Zimmerman were united in marriage on August 27, 1956, in Manning, Iowa, and have lived in Griswold since 1976.

Marlene was a member of the Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, a 54-year member of the Legion Auxiliary, and was the Advancement Chairman for the Boy Scouts with over 50 years of Service. She enjoyed spending time going dancing with Leo, camping and traveling in their Winnebago, and going to NASCAR races at the International Speedway in Michigan. Marlene was involved with Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and was caretaker of the Cass County Museum. You would often see her at Auctions!

Marlene was preceded in death by her sister Marion Bartelson; and brothers, Alan, Arden, and Jerry Hargens.

Marlene is survived by her husband of 68 years, Leo Zimmerman of Griswold; children, Wayne (Lisa) Zimmerman of Casey, Iowa; Jean Bailey of Walker, Iowa; Joan (Greg) Chmel of Aurora, Colorado; Brian Zimmerman of Massena, Iowa; Mark (Eva) Zimmerman of Shenandoah, Iowa; Janet Wilson of Griswold; Jolene (Todd) Sonntag of Atlantic, Iowa; Keith Zimmerman of Georgetown, Colorado; and Brent Zimmerman of Atlantic, Iowa; 24 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lila Forke (Denny) of Fairfax, Iowa; and Lori (Darrell) Voege of Grand Island, Nebraska; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and a host of many friends.
