Rites for Mary Schrum Will Be Tuesday, 2 P.M.
Mrs. Schrum, 89, Passes Away at Home Near Templeton

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock for Mrs. Mary Schrum, 89, who passed away at her home two miles east of Templeton Saturday morning, August 28, 1937, at eleven o'clock. Her death was unexpected although her three surviving children were present at her death bed.

Miss Mary Dorothea Meyer was born in Hamburg, Germany, April 11, 1848. After living there for several years she came to America in 1865 with her parents and brother, August, and settled in Illinois. On October 2, 1871, she was united in marriage to Marx Schrum in Sollitt, Illinois.

FOR SIX YEARS
They resided at that place for six years where they were engaged in farming. In 1876, they moved to the homestead 2 miles east of Templeton. Mr. Schrum died July 1924, which is 12 years ago but Mrs. Schrum remained on the farm on which she lived for sixty-one years. Three years ago she suffered a stroke but had never been bedfast.

She is survived by three children, John and George of Templeton, and Mrs. Mart Jacobson (Mary) of Dedham, five grandchildren, Melvin Jacobson of San Diego, California; William and Violet Jacobson of Dedham, Esther Jacobson of Omaha and Lillian, who stays with her uncle, John Schrum, near Templeton. All will attend her funeral but Melvin, who is unable to be here. Preceding her in death besides her husband was her father, who died in 1885 and her mother, who died in 1891. One son, William, also passed away.

She was the last of the family of seven. She had seven brothers, William, Louis, Chris, Henry, Fred, August, and Dedrich Meyer, of Manning, her last brother, died December 1, 1936.

OHDE FUNERAL HOME
The body was at the Ohde funeral home at Manning until Sunday evening when it was brought to the home where it will remain until Tuesday afternoon.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor John M. Ansorge, of the Manning Lutheran Church, at 2 o'clock. Burial will be made in Elba Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Schrum Dies At 89 Years
Mary Dorothea Schrum, nee Meyer, was born in Hanover, Germany, on April 11th, 1848. She spent her childhood days in her native land and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 18 years, she came with her parents and one brother, August, to America, settling in Illinois.

In 1871, on the second of October, she was united in marriage to Marx Schrum in Sollitt Kankakee County, Illinois. This union was blessed with four children, a son, William, preceding her in death.

The surviving are two sons, John and George of Templeton, and one daughter, Mary, Mrs. Mart Jacobsen of Dedham. She also leaves five grandchildren: Melvin Jacobsen of San Diego, California; William and Violet Jacobsen of Dedham; Esther Jacobsen of Omaha, and Lillian at the home of her uncle John Schrum of Templeton.

She was the last of a family of eight children. Her father died in 1885 and her mother passed away in 1891. Her seven brothers were William, Louis, Chris, Henry, Fred, August, and Dietrich. Mr. August Meyer of Manning, her last living brother, died December 1st, 1936.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the home, with Pastor John M. Ansorge officiating. Burial was made in the Elba Cemetery in Eden Township.

Mrs. Schrum passed away at her home near Templeton on Saturday morning at 11:00 o'clock at the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 17 days. Her three children were with her when she slumbered away into eternity. Three years ago, she suffered a stroke but was never bedfast, and her passing was somewhat unexpected. A loving mother and a good neighbor has gone to her reward.

Following her marriage, they lived in Illinois for six years, after which she came with her family to Templeton on a farm about two miles east, on which place she lived for 61 years. Her husband passed away in July 1924.

She is mourned by her children and many relatives and a large circle of friends who paid their last respects to her on Tuesday afternoon.
