ALAMO
Mrs. Mary Van Patten, sister of J.G. Schumaker, former Alamo resident passed away at Houston, Wednesday, according to word received by Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Shumaker of Alamo. Mrs. Van Patten was 80 years old at the time of her death. She lived at Alamo with her brother J.G. Shumaker from 1933 to March 1938, when she was taken to Houston for medical treatment and remained there until her death.
The body will be shipped from Houston to Manning, Iowa, where interment will take place. She will be buried beside her husband and son who have preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, J.G. Shumaker who was with her at the time of her death. Mr. Shumaker, longtime resident or Alamo, has been in Houston since April this year.

Mary Van Patten, Former Resident, Laid to Rest Here
Anna Mary Van Patten, a former Manning resident was laid to rest here last Thursday. She will be remembered by some of the older residents of Manning.

Mrs. Van Patten was born in Markleysburg, Pennsylvania, October 28, 1857, and died May 25, 1938, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 80 years.

She was married to William H. Schoop, November 29, 1883. There was one son by this marriage, Willie, who died at the age of 12 years. Mr. Schoop died in 1893, and in 1895 she married Christian L. Van Patten, who died March 1, 1931.

Mrs. Van Patten was a member of the Methodist Church and the Eastern Star Lodge at Manning, Iowa. She is survived by one brother, J.G. Shumaker of Alamo, Texas, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Rev. Williams, Methodist minister of Gray, officiated. The local Eastern Star Chapter also took part in the services. Interment was in the Manning Cemetery.

Pallbearers were E.E. Breckenridge, Julius Wehrmann, Ralph G. Sutherland, John Frahm, John A. Lewis, and Herman Hoffmann.

Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Denney and son Fred, Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Daughenbaugh of Massena, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Daughenbaugh and granddaughter Betty Lou of Fontanelle; Mrs. Frank Waechter and daughter Frances of Omaha & Mrs. Waechter's aunt, Mrs. Frankie Ferry of Denison. These are nieces and nephews of Mrs. Van Patten, and the latter, Mrs. Ferry was a personal friend.

Funeral arrangements were made through the Ohde Funeral Home.

Mrs. Anna Mary Van Patten, 80, of 2019 Mcllhenny, died at her home at 8:57 a.m. Wednesday. She is survived by a brother, John G. Shumaker of Houston, one niece, Mrs. R.A. Tilsch. Funeral services at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Heights Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. O.C. Linstrum officiating. The body is to be sent to Manning, Iowa, for burial Wednesday night by the Heights Funeral Home.
