THE TWENTY-THIRD PSALM
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside
the still water. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea,
though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me: Thy rod and Thy
staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth
over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
Funeral services for Minnie Henrietta Martens, 87, of Manning will be held Thursday, March 25, 1974, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor Edward F. Heinicke will officiate with burial in the Manning Cemetery.
Minnie Henrietta Martens, the daughter of August and Henrietta (Fink) Schultz was born March 27, 1886, in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended rural school near her home and was united in marriage to William J. Martens on August 1, 1905, at her home. They moved to Manning where her husband had the Martens Mercantile Store until 1932. Her husband died on April 21, 1955, but she continued to make her home in Manning.
Mrs. Martens was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning and a charter member of the Dorcas Women's Society at the church.
In 1968, she suffered a stroke and was confined to Carroll Hospital for 6 weeks. Upon coming home, she was confined to a wheel chair for the past 6 years, being cared for by Ed and Marcella, the last 3 1/2 years in her home. On December 28, 1973, she had another stroke and fell and broke her hip. She was in the Carroll Hospital 5 weeks and then transferred to Denison Manor Nursing Home. There she celebrated her 88th birthday two days early with her sister Heidi and nieces and Ed and Marcella during the afternoon, then suddenly died that Monday evening.
