MRS. OLGA SPIES
Funeral services for Mrs. Olga Spies, 74, will be held in Zion Lutheran Church, Manning at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Pastor George Eschenbacher, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dr. Rober R. Dappen, Charles Gruhn, Hubert Lamp, Ed Stuhr, Albert Dietz, and Gordon Wycoff.

Mrs. Spies died Thursday morning, June 12, 1958, in St. Anthony Hospital, Carroll, after a long illness.

She was the daughter of William and Juliana (Kruse) Stark and was born October 24, 1883, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. At the age of 14, she came to the United States with her family, settling in the Westside area.

On December 22, 1901, she was married to Fritz Spies, who died in August 1937. The couple had four children. They farmed one year near Arcadia, seven years near Gray, and three years near Lake City. In 1913, they moved to a farm northeast of Manning, and after Mr. Spies' death, Mrs. Spies moved to Manning in 1939.

She was baptized and confirmed In Germany and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

Surviving is a daughter Frieda at home; a son Alfred, who lives near Manning; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister Mrs. Helena Jentzen of Arcadia; brother Gustav Stark of Norwalk; and a sister in Germany.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son who died in infancy; one daughter Mrs. George Hansen (Ella); eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral services for Mrs. Olga Dorothea Spies, 74, were held Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Pastor George B. Eschenbacher officiated and burial was in the Manning Cemetery.
Born in Germany, Mrs. Spies came to this country in 1883 and settled in this community with her family.
Survivors are one daughter, Frieda; and one son, Alfred, both of Manning; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Jentzen of Arcadia and another in Germany; one brother, Gustav Stark of Norwalk; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
