Rita Ann, daughter of Wolfgang and Mary Catherine (Skalla) Wanninger, was born September 3, 1930, on a farm near Manning in Audubon County, Iowa. She attended Gray Consolidated School. After completing her schooling in Gray, she attended Thompson School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines. In September of 1949, she returned to Manning and worked for Norma Wiese in her beauty shop for five months before opening her own shop on February 1, 1950.

On May 6, 1953, Rita was united in marriage with Amos William Misselhorn at Sacred Heart Church in Manning. She continued to operate her beauty shop for five years and then retired to care for her growing family. Rita remained at home until 1967 when she started to work for Rusco, later known as L.R. Nelson, until the fall of 1982 when the plant closed. Her husband died unexpectedly on December 18, 1984. Rita had battled failing eye sight most of her life and in the 1985 went to Des Moines to learn Braille and other skills necessary to function fully on her own.

Rita was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning, Altar and Rosary Society and Catholic Daughter's of the Americas. She was an active volunteer for the Manning General Hospital Auxiliary and the Manning Plaza. She was a member of the Fire Sirens, American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. In 1960s and again in the 1980s, she was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader.

Rita was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1992 and with the care of her son Keith was able to remain at home until 1995 when she moved to nursing home in Minneapolis to be near her daughter. She died at Crystal Care Center in Crystal, MN on Monday, April 23, 2007, at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 20 days.

Preceding Rita in death are her parents; husband Amos and three brothers Joseph, Bernard and Leo Wanninger.

She is survived by her three children: Twyla Misselhorn and her partner Steve Masters of Minneapolis, MN; Kent Misselhorn of Chandler, AZ and Keith Misselhorn and fiancé Kim Mandery of Manning; two grandchildren Jeremy Misselhorn and fiancé Nicole Nielsen of Manilla and Jennifer and husband Eric Wiebers of Alta; great-grandson Jalen Wiebers of Alta and sister Evelyn and husband John Irwin of Miami Lakes, FL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

MEMORY OF ME
I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I'd like to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days.
Id like the tears of those who grieve
To dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave
When life is done.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord
And let perpetual light shine upon her.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed,
Through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen
