Police Sgt. S.E. Worrell, who identified them, said the two had apparently left the automobile engine running to keep warm. The ignition switch was turned on but the engine had stopped when a railway switching crew found them in mid-afternoon.
Seattle friends said the couple had planned to be married.
Miss Stangl's body will be brought back to Templeton for funeral rites and burial, her mother said, although arrangements have not been completed.
Miss Stangl, who had been in Seattle about eight years, had formerly lived in Manning. Her father, Fred Stangl, died about five years ago when the family resided in Manning.
Her mother and family have lived in Templeton the last three years. Besides her mother, Miss Stangl leaves three brothers and three sisters.
Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Templeton.
