Manning relatives have received word of the death of Robert Sutherland of Buena Park, California, on Tuesday, February 16, 1954. His body will be brought to Manning for burial.
Mr. Sutherland is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Grantz of Manning, who will arrive here February 19. He also leaves his step-mother, Mrs. Bertha Sutherland of Manning; and two brothers, Ralph G. Sutherland and Ernest D. Sutherland, Manning.
The couple's only son, Donald, was killed in action in World War II.
Burial was in the Manning Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harry Hinz, Adolph H. Hinz, Herman Vogt, Alfred Kuhl, Loren L. Hockett, and Louis E. Schelldorf.
Mr. Sutherland died Tuesday, February 16, of a throat infection at Santa Ana County Hospital, Santa Ana, California. He had been ill for five months.
He was born October 10, 1879, son of Donald W. and Anna (Espy) Sutherland, at Center Junction, Iowa. In 1915, he was married to Evelyn Grantz at Manning, and the couple moved to Yankton, South Dakota. In 1920, they went to Los Angeles, where Mr. Sutherland operated an oil company, and in 1930 to Buena Park, California, where he became a tax consultant.
He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Ralph G. and Ernest
D. Sutherland, and his step-mother, Mrs. Bertha L. Sutherland, Manning. He was
preceded in death by a son, Donald, who was killed in action on June 5, 1945,
while a radio technician with the Air Corps; a brother Lial C., and his parents.
